18th Century Chelsea Dalmation Dogs

$295.00

Here we have a stunning pair of Chelsea Dalmatian Staffordshire dogs from the Gold Anchor Era 1756–1769. One with a red collar, and one with a blue. This is a complete set and therefore a very rare find. I can not find another pair like them. They are in exquisite condition with no chips or cracks. The dog with the red collar does have some slight fading and raising on her spots, it may be that someone tried to touch up her spots over the last 300 years. 300 Years!!! There is no crazing. Even the Gold Anchor is in perfect vintage condition.

There is no indication or SS or Germany stamp indicating these are Edmé Samson, so I do not believe they are! This particular gold anchor logo on Chelsea has a slightly different size fluke on the left vs. the right side of the anchor, which is commonly seen on Chelsea, not on Edmé. And the anchor head of Edmé are a bit wonky.

These lovely dogs sit upon decorative grass (bocage) and each have a petite blue flower in front of them, They measure 2.5" in height and 2" wide. I have never seen anything quite like them.
I acquired these from a local collector who has been in business for over 30 years! I felt like I'd just hit the antique road show jackpot when I spotted them with a tag that read Chelsea!!

Although it was only produced for a short time, Chelsea porcelain was collected by the wealthiest people in 18th-century society including royalty.

This is not only the coolest set of Staffordshire doggies I've ever seen, it will also gain incredible value in generations to come! This couple is both art and a smart investment!
Please see all photos for “character flaws”. Grading policies can be viewed in our Menu!
